In December of 2023, ASICS introduced the Solution Speed FF 3 tennis shoes, the new generation of the popular Solution Speed series, designed for speed, flexibility, and comfort.
As expected from ASICS, this new generation also brings the latest technologies to optimize product performance. Below you will find information on what has changed compared to the previous generation, the Solution Speed FF 2:
- PRECISION-SOLE™ technology has been added to the shoes for an improved blend of grip and flexibility.
- The material of the toe box has been replaced with flexible, woven mesh, making the shoe lighter and providing a more comfortable fit. Additionally, this promotes breathability in the Solution Speed FF 3.
- ASICS's existing SPEEDTRUSS™ technology has been further developed, enhancing the flexibility and speed experienced compared to the previous generation Solution Speed.
- Starting with this introduction, ASICS has decided to be transparent about the total CO2 emissions generated per pair of Solution Speed FF 3 shoes produced. They aim to reduce emissions across the entire production chain to contribute to a better future.
These shoes have quickly made their mark in the professional circuit, with representatives like Alex de Minaur and Belinda Bencic, as well as among recreational tennis players looking for lightweight, flexible tennis shoes.
What do we think of the Solution Speed FF 3?
During our training sessions with Team Tennis Only, we tested these shoes for various properties. Our findings are discussed below.
Fit
The ASICS Solution Speed tennis shoes have long been known for their snug fit, and we found no difference with this new generation. The shoes wrap neatly around the foot, allowing you to move confidently across the entire tennis court. However, since there are colleagues within our team who need a wider fit, the Solution Speed FF 3 may not be suitable for everyone. Therefore, always pay attention to the fit you need!
Speed
Because these shoes are very light (313 grams in men's EU size 42.5), moving across the court felt very natural. Compared to, for example, the ASICS Gel-Resolution 9 - a slightly heavier model designed for maximum lateral stability - wearing the new Solution Speed gave an extra feeling of lightness.
Stability
In terms of stability, the Solution Speed FF 3 scored differently for us, depending on the player's footwork. Because less rubber is used on the outside of this new generation Solution Speed compared to the previous one, and it has been replaced by softer, more flexible mesh material, we found that lateral stability suffered slightly.
Flexibility
At the same time, replacing rubber with mesh material also offers advantages, especially noticeable in the shoes' flexibility. Combined with the improved SPEEDTRUSS™ technology, this resulted in the desired agility and speed to cover the entire court.
Comfort
Due to the snug fit, the shoe fits relatively tightly around your foot. However, we found that the comfort remained good. The mesh material on the side and top of the Solution Speed FF 3 is soft and flexible, so you feel little restriction during movement.
