The German brand has worked hard to innovate its existing and popular tennis shoes, to make them perform even better on the court. One of the models that has been upgraded is the adidas Ubersonic.

Improvements

The renewed adidas Ubersonic aims to offer tennis players of all levels a shoe that allows quick reactions and provides security for you to slide toward the ball. Wearing the Ubersonic 5 should lead to the feeling of confidence needed to perform efficient and intensive footwork all over the court. The technological improvements that have been made to achieve this goal are as follows:

Speedframe

This technology is derived from the Speedframe technology, previously used in adidas’ football and rugby boots. Now in the new adidas Adizero Ubersonic 5, it is implemented for the first time in tennis shoes. This lightweight, plastic frame is located on the bottom of the midsole and runs diagonally upwards behind the heel, to provide extra support to the middle and back of the foot during quick changes of direction. In addition, it provides a well-locked, secure feeling during play.

Lightstrike Midsole

The midsole on the inside of the shoe has been revised and improved compared to the previous generation Ubersonic, based on the feedback gathered. The Lightstrike midsole was first implemented in the mega-popular Adizero running shoes and has now been further developed to offer tennis players a combination of responsiveness and comfort. Due to the relatively low stance in the shoe, you experience the feeling of optimal contact with the court, while the cushioning remains of high quality.

Half-bootie Upper

The upper of the adidas Adizero Ubersonic 5 is made of mesh material that breathes better, is more comfortable, and is even lighter than that of its predecessor. The half-bootie construction means that the upper of the shoe partly functions as a kind of sock (also called a "bootie") that optimally encloses the foot, while the other part of the upper has a more traditional design. For example, the Ubersonic 5 has more sturdy elements added in strategic places to guarantee the stability and durability of the shoes. Thanks to the half-bootie upper, tennis players experience a combination of comfort, durability, speed, and stability during play.

Split Lining w/ Shark Skin

This technology refers to the innovation of the inner construction of the new adidas tennis shoes. The shape and material of the back of the shoe in particular play an important role in this. It is constructed in such a way that the back encloses the heel firmly, yet comfortably. Together with the Speedframe technology and the half-bootie upper, this contributes to a relatively snug fit that combines comfort and stability. The shark skin lining in turn provides a soft and locked-down feeling of the heel and midfoot, which facilitates quick and directional movements.

Adiwear outsole and Adituff toe are existing technologies, which were also used in the 4.1. The Adiwear outsole is good for providing grip, a controlled feeling during sliding, and preventing wear. The Adituff toe is implemented for extra durability of the front of the shoes, as this is a known wear spot during intensive footwork and sliding across the court.
