Björn Borg in the Tennis Market
The Björn Borg brand is named after the legendary Swedish tennis player of the same name and has become deeply rooted in the tennis market. Björn ‘Ice Man’ Borg caught the eye of the then conservative tennis court and transformed it into a colourful stage. To honour his iconic image, the very first sportswear collection of his own brand was introduced in 1984, with Rohdi Heintz as head designer. For Björn Borg, tennis is more than a sport; it is a lifestyle that revolves around discipline, perseverance and the pursuit of excellence. The brand aims to provide tennis players with high-quality, functional clothing that supports them in reaching their maximum potential, without compromising on style. Sustainability, innovation and a Scandinavian aesthetic are at the heart of the brand, making it synonymous with sportswear that is both elegant and practical. The Swedish brand’s focus is on bringing sports and fashion together, which is reflected in the new autumn/winter 2024 collection.
The Autumn/Winter 2024 Colours, Styles and Materials
This latest collection embodies the unique combination of style, performance and comfort on and off the court that Björn Borg strives to bring to the tennis market. The Swedish tennis player was not only known for his fantastic technical skills and mental resilience, but also for his flair, confidence and stylish appearance. These elements were therefore taken into account in the design process of the AW24 collection.
The colours used in this collection are Black Beauty, Brilliant White, Egret, Night Sky, Pomegranate, Samba and Sycamore. This has resulted in the classic, luxurious, yet comfortable and sporty look that the clothing for the autumn and winter season carries with it.
In order to provide players with the fashionable Björn Borg look both on and off the court, styles have been developed that provide tennis players with the necessary freedom of movement and moisture-wicking properties during play, often produced from recycled polyester and elastane, such as the skirts, dresses, tanks and shirts for women and the shirts, polos and shorts for men. The garments for off the court, or during the warm-up, consist of a tracksuit, leggings and an oversized sweater for women, where the suit and leggings are made of a blend of recycled polyester and elastane and the sweater offers a comfortable, soft combination of recycled cotton and polyester. For the men, a full tracksuit has been designed from recycled polyester with retro elements reminiscent of the Swedish tennis player's heyday in the 70s and 80s. In addition, a suit has also been produced from a high-quality mix of cotton and polyester, consisting of an oversized sweater and matching sweatpants. In short, something for everyone.
