A larger sweet spot thanks to the distinctive, slightly more square shape of the head: that’s how you instantly recognize a Yonex tennis racket. The Japanese brand calls this shape Isometric and uses it across all of its racket series, each with a clear focus of its own. On the professional tours, you’ll see Yonex in the hands of players such as Ben Shelton, Casper Ruud, Elena Rybakina, Tommy Paul, and Frances Tiafoe. Below, we explain which Yonex racket series are available and what each one can do for your game.
EZONE, VCORE, PERCEPT, or MUSE: Yonex’s Racket Series Explained
The Yonex EZONE combines power with comfort and precision. The frames give you easy ball speed and depth, while the smooth feel is easy on your arm. That makes the EZONE a versatile choice for a wide range of players, from recreational to competitive, and the series of players including Shelton and Ruud. The Yonex VCORE is Yonex’s spin racket family. Innovative technologies make the difference here: a slightly wider upper hoop enlarges the sweet spot, and specially designed grommets give the strings more freedom of movement. As a result, they snap back powerfully after contact and add extra rotation to the ball, with a stable, connected feel. On tour, you’ll see the VCORE with players such as Rybakina and Paul.
The Yonex PERCEPT is Yonex’s control-oriented series and the successor to the VCORE Pro. These rackets are all about precision and feel. You can sense exactly what the ball is doing and place it accurately, especially if you generate enough power on your own with long, full swings. The series includes Yonex’s heaviest and most demanding rackets, but also slightly more accessible versions for players looking for control and feel with a bit more forgiveness. On tour, you’ll see the PERCEPT with players such as Tiafoe. The new Yonex MUSE has a completely different character. This comfortable all-rounder is all about fun and ease on court. Yonex gave the MUSE the most forgiving frame the brand has made to date. It feels smooth and arm-friendly, so you won’t tire as quickly. Ideal for recreational players and anyone who puts comfort first.
Which Yonex Racket Is Right for Me?
At Yonex, too, the number in the model name stands for the head size in square inches. The structure within the EZONE and VCORE is comparable, so a single series includes rackets from different racket groups. The 98 versions weigh around 305 grams and, with their slightly smaller heads and thinner beams, give you extra control and precision, for advanced and competitive players. The standard versions with a 100 sq in head weigh around 300 grams and are the versions many intermediate to advanced players feel secure with right away: stable at contact, yet quick in the hand. The L versions (around 280–285 grams) and the SL versions available in some series (around 265–270 grams) are the most maneuverable and help you generate racket head speed with ease.
